part 3 observation!!

OK so trying to find out as much about the lake and carp fishing as possible at coombe, before i start fishing Jan 1st..

Took a good walk around Sunday ,,,wet and windy so did not see much in the way of fish,, there was a few lads piking,,and loads of bird life ..think this will be a bit of a problem when it comes to my baiting.

having a good look around the lake ..i think the first area I'm going to target is in the first few swims you come too , by the car park end, there is a wall of reeds which basically ends the lake..there are a few reasons I'm going to fish here..

1 i think these reeds will defo hold carp in the winter i have found on other waters that reeds in the winter are a good spot and hold carp.

2 the reeds will act as a good marker for me ..so i can be very accurate with my bait ..its is not mega distance which will help to.

3 and best of all its very near to the car park..which means no walk,,more time fishing..LOL.

i have sorted my rigs ,,upgraded my rods and reels for a bit more distance ...

bait Wise I'm between two..both are very good over silt and proven winter baits ..i am going to be adding a bit of bait not as much as i will in spring but just a bit for them to get the taste..two rods will be on the chosen bait popped up or balanced ..and the 3rd on a high flavour high viz pop up.

news on the carp side ..there was a few 20s out a few weeks ago..to 27lb..

part 2 still thinking!!

so as i said, iv always wanted to fish coombe..would love to see if this place does hold a monster.
with a business and two kids i have got to use time Wise,, iv managed to free up Tuesday afternoon wed night and Thursday morning..so a good 24hr midweek. plus maybe the odd day session weekend.
I'm not going to fish until 1st Jan 10 ..until then I'm going to sort out all my gear needed, take a few trips up with the marker and make a plan..i will fish from Jan till end march as there is closed season... and then start new season, its a bit of a odd time to start WINTER but I'm not to put off by this. coombe is a shallow lake and very silty which i have found to be productive winter times..i will be taking loads of pic's of this beautifull place and hopeful a few carp.

PART 1 TIME TO THINK!!

hello guys a welcome .... this time has been long time coming,,im finally going to have a crack at COMMBE pool Coventry,,, i thought this journey would be a good one to blog.. i will try to keep you updated as best i can and hope to use your feed bk...
so a bit about commbe ...
coombe pool is around 110 acres.. 85/90 fishable ..dug in 1770. what was in it up till 1940 ?? but in 1940 it was drained by MOD for security perposes during the war..the stock was sent to newbold quarry.. late 40s it was stocked again by the grey family and the grounds keeper, and was a very high class fishery..that original stock swims to present day, the pool was sold to Coventry council in 1958..and fish were added over the years, in the last 6 years various species have been added including around 250 carp a good few now over 20/30lb some of these carp was of the ORIGINAL LENEY STAIN as stocked in to southern estates inc redmire.now when the pool was restocked in the late 40s after it was drained the same carp was put in to the moat THE LENEY,s. could coombe pool still hold original Laney carp from the 40s the same era fish as redmire...with the size of the pool natural food source and relatively low fishing pressure could coombe hold something VERY SPECIAL.
